Ureteral stone surgery or ureteroscopy (URS) is a minimally invasive procedure to remove stones stuck in the ureter. A thin scope is passed through the urinary tract to locate and remove or break the stone.
The cost depends on whether a simple basket extraction or laser lithotripsy is used. Laser URS costs more but is highly effective for hard or large stones. A ureteral stent may be placed temporarily.
The procedure is done under anaesthesia so it is painless. Mild discomfort and burning during urination is common for a few days after the procedure.
URS is often done as a day-care procedure. Patients typically go home the same evening or the next morning.
